In the 28th Century, the Human race has expanded to settle over 10,000 worlds. It has joined with the aliens they have discovered to form the Alliance, and organization which controls over 30,000 planets. Which even for its size, is just a tiny fraction of space. Like any booming technological society, the Alliance needs resources. The profits on discovering some of those can be astronomical. This has led to the creation of commercial Exploration Ships. Exploring new planets and systems is dangerous work. Made more so by the explosion of Pirates who are attracted to the sometimes-massive financial gains in stealing Exploration Ships Cargo. There are also unknown alien races, who may or may not be friendly. The loss of 6 Exploration Ships in 3 years had prompted a reassessment of Exploration Ship design. The Tonatiuh was a new class of ship, fast, well-armed, and equipped with the latest electronic and communications technology. They are charged with mining exotic extra heavy metals on planets which have been exposed to intense radiation bursts from supernovas. Along the way they do indeed encounter Pirates, unscrupulous competitors, hostile aliens, friendly aliens, and a race whose secret is too horrible to tell. And then there were the aliens who redefined intelligent life. The Voyages of the Tonatiuh continues in the metaverse first described in Fierce Dawn I & 2. It is independent of the first two books.
