Though not well-suited to in-depth study of any one particular vessel, Leo Marriott's "The Vital Guide to Modern Warships" is an excellent snaphot of all the weapons deployed by today's navies. A brief introduction is followed by serperate units on aircraft carriers, submarines, major warships, destroyers & frigates, small warships, amphibious warfare vessels, and logistic support vessels. Each vessel's entry includes quality photographs and full specification. Marriott's book is well-edited and includes useful notes on the data tables, a glossary, and an index, all positive characteristics often lacking in general military reference books such as this. Though probably inferior to the similar "The Illustrated Directory of Warships" by David Miller, "The Vital Guide to Modern Warhips" is still a valuable, fact-filled resource for any student of naval warfare.
