Why I'm not a Buddhist from the philosophical point of view

Yes, this an excellent book on buddhism, that I bought because I saw the name of Erich Fromm, and its main advantage is that it is written for a western mind with a long judeo-christian tradition in which suffering is now part of our incomplete-evolutionary state, and not neccesarely a Nobel Truth, a world-view, that if taken for granted will take us to deny the "I" or "personality" as described in the introduction of this book, a reason why I understood clearly why I'm not a buddhist, even though I practice daily meditation following all those recommendations by the same author in his book The Heart of Buddhist Meditation. World-views or philosophical positions are not testable but it is quite important to know them to know which questions cannot be asked within a particular one, and in this book, Buddism is clearly described.

Straight to the point

One of the most direct books on the Dhamma. No retorical ramblings, cuts straight to the point and offers practical advice in a guided manner on how to overcome suffering (from someone I am sure who has overcome it). A must for all Buddhists!

A scholar/monk/meditator goes deep

I like this book because it is not a simple feel-good book on Buddhism (there are plenty of those around (not to knock the genre)) but rather an exploration of some of the deeper aspects of the teachings of the Buddha. The author uses lots of passages from the original writings and then disects their meaning in clear language. There are also some essays on comtempory issues such as "the God idea", devotion, and karma and how it works--evidently karma IS modifiable-I still have a chance! I trust the author's authenticity and authority--he was a scholar, a monk for 55 years and a committed and long time meditator--what a combination for producing a clear "Vision of Dhamma"!
