In trying to help, her pimp tries to punish her. The resulting tale takes the reader through the town of Los Duos, its inhabitants and the trials of dealing with a church that sees a saint in the making, the mother who wants the fetus aborted, the religious zealots, and the press who sees a juicy international story evolving.
