LIKE ANTIGONE CONFRONTING KING CREON, LIKE ELEKTRA IN MOURNING, THIS EPIC DOCUMENT EMERGES AS ETERNA

Read this now again. If anything survives the precipitous collapse of the US Empire, this document will, as evidence of one courageous mother who mourned her son sent to die in a meaningless war, like Uriah, and confronted the distracted emperor asking why. Like Antigone seeking honorably to lay her dead to rest, denied by an uncaring king; like the mourning which becomes Elektra. See for instance, those who do not know: Sophokles Elektra (New Directions Paperbook, 683) or Antigone, Oedipus the King, Electra (Oxford World's Classics) or Sophocles I: Oedipus The King, Oedipus at Colonus, Antigone (The Complete Greek Tragedies). Cindy Sheehan is our own Antigone. Read her saga here, her courage, her mourning that others need not mourn their own dead. This document will survive the present fall, as it is universal and eternal, wherever there are mothers, and sons sent to war for no reason. See also for such courageous and unarmed witness such documents as The Time's Discipline: The Eight Beatitudes and Nuclear Resistance. And may God bless Cindy Sheehan.

objective reporting

Several of the negative reviews for this book seem politically motivated only and also contain incorrect information. The book, first of all, is not written by Sheehan and she will not profit from sales. Secondly, the book is an accounting of not only the pro-Sheehan Camp Casey but also the pro-Bush/pro-war side of things. It is objective and also contains interviews with some interesting people who were in Crawford, TX last August. The perspectives of the reporters were compelling as well, and one was decidely NOT pro-Sheehan, if you read between the lines. The editor added his comments about the challenges of a small town newspaper with minimal staff taking on the task of covering this event on almost an hourly basis for 26 days. It is a must for journalism classes everywhere.

This book was amazing

Reading this book was an amazing experience, it really puts you in the middle of everything that was happening at Camp Casey. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. This event will go down in history, and The Vigil will always be recognized as the source for everything you want to know about it.

The Facts....

We can have a tough time understanding situations from afar. Especially when all we know of them are what we are told. How can we form our own opinions if we are'nt spared the ones who come from vendettas? This book recounts the facts; Why it was important to hold this event, what it meant to the people involved in it, and what it means as an American to sacrifice (at the highest social degree). I am a law student and have learned one thing. This is beaten into our heads to form us as future administers of justice; Look at the facts, view the law (or in this case your morals and ethics) and form your own opinion. We must be given a factual account of the important events that build our country. This book does just that, and I thank all who were involved.
