Book Overview

Grant's Vicksburg operations and those of the opposing side are of lasting historical interest. Combined land and naval operations, guerrilla raids, political infighting and interference, and the riverine operations of America's first "brown water" navy; all have been brought together here in a powerful narrative of military history.

i really enjoyed this book, its full of period photo,s and drawings, the text gives a good overall view of the campaign its self and the side bars cover various intresting facts such as griersons raid, general forrest, the commander of vicksburg gen pendleton who was yankee born, the siege of port hudson, grants drinking, and the strange story of the wounding of a gallant rebel in an intimate area and at the same time a young southern belle is hit by the same round leading to a remarkable pregnancy,i really reccomend this book as a good starting point to wet the appitite to read more about the western theater or indeed the civil war its self.
