A Great Adventure Through The Streets of San Francisco!

I recently read a copy of Mr. Dalton's first novel, The Vertical Man, after picking it up at a promotional reading. The content did not disappoint. As a long-time resident of San Francisco, it's often difficult to find good stories that take a slice of the city that does not pander to the "tourist" element. I particularly enjoyed the Philip K. Dick overtones and the many historical and cultural references. Some readers will get'em and some won't. For a first novel The Vertical Man was a good, FUN read. It was also uniquely short -- one can easily finish the book in the same amount of time the story takes place. If you're looking for a quick, eclectic and entertaining adventure through San Francisco, check it out.

Hi Matt

I finally finished, the Vertical Man (sort of,. I skipped parts near the end to finish)Thumbs up. Well written and exciting. My only disappointment is that you almost had it. What do I mean? After talking to you about Phil K. Dick a few years ago, I expected that kind of touch. It's like you would have made the Lance character have Thaddeus question reality, which you did, but not just in the micro sense but also the macro sense. I don't know how you could have done it. It would take a much longer book. Do you have a sequel coming up called Lance's world?

fast and fun

I picked this up for a trip to southern california. it was great; the northern california references reminded me of home. It was a fun, entertaining read. I give it a solid recommendation.
