The Vermont Gambit

By: Chiger, Larry

1778. The American rebellion has fallen, but the Republic of Vermont refuses to bend the knee. As Baron Friedrich von Steuben, recently cast off by misguided Continental officers, trains the Green Mountain Rangers for a final stand, diplomat Ira Allen leads a desperate mission to negotiate with the British.

But Vermont's fate may be decided not on the battlefield but in the heart of a British officer. The Empire's chosen negotiator is Captain Theodore Brehm, a man whose loyalty has never wavered until now. When he meets Ira's firebrand sister, Lucy, the line between duty and desire blurs.

When New York's attempts to reclaim its breakaway territory spark violent skirmishes that threaten to ignite an all-out war, Brehm must navigate not just Vermont's defiance but also prevent the conflict from consuming the entire region.

Torn between loyalty and love, can he find a way to spare Vermont from devastation-or will his divided heart seal its fate?
