The Valley

By Holly Trethowen

The Valley is a gripping post-apocalyptic book series set in a world where nature has reclaimed the Earth, overtaking once-bustling cities. In the first book, Mira and Kael are two resilient survivors navigating this harsh, forgotten world. The cities, now overrun with vines, trees, and wild animals, stand as silent monuments to humanity's past. The technological wonders of the old world-electricity, machinery, and power-are now lost, leaving people to struggle against the elements.

Mira and Kael's journey is marked by their battle against the Progressors, a faction of humans who have become obsessed with rebuilding and advancing society by any means necessary. These Progressors, known to the survivors as the Rusties, are ruthless in their pursuit of control and the reactivation of the old world's technology. They believe that restoring the ancient power grid is the key to humanity's future, even at the cost of the planet's natural balance. The Rusties' reliance on outdated technologies and disregard for the planet's recovery puts them in direct conflict with those like Mira and Kael, who believe that a future must be built in harmony with nature.
The Valley explores themes of environmentalism, technology's role in society, and the resilience of the human spirit. Mira and Kael's fight against the Rusties is not only a battle for survival but a fight for the future of a world where the past has been lost but the legacy of humanity's choices endures.
