In the distant future, everything is run by quantum computers and AI, assisted by nanotechnology. Humans and some animals are able to have DNA modifications to live longer. A nano injection at birth gives them capabilities to live longer and receive upgrades. The nano injections also allow quantum AI to connect all hosts to a neural network known as UTOPIA. This system is still in its experimental phase. Anyone can opt out or be exiled, resulting in the loss of all benefits the nanotechnology has granted. The Utopia Project takes place on a man-made island in the Atlantic Ocean, spanning 10 square kilometers. Access to the mainland is denied.
