In the first appearance by the five super heroes which the world now knows as the Upholders - The World's Greatest Heroes, they thwarted a preliminary invasion by a small, extraterrestrial group of reptilian warriors bent upon conquering our world and utilizing humanity as a food source in their war against a neighboring star system.
The five super heroes now are free to focus upon fulfilling their mission of protecting mankind and genuinely upholding law and order. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to them or the general public, our own government is conducting a secret, black operation project whereupon five violent criminals were selected to undergo a dangerous experiment which would either kill them or endow them with powers and abilities beyond those of ordinary human beings.
What is the X Factor is the fact that the head of this project is a xenophobic fanatic who believes that the three Upholders who are African American are probably extraterrestrial aliens who must be destroyed He mandates that his augmented soldiers must prove themselves in battle by murdering the Upholders in order to save our country from destruction by these secret aliens.
