The Philippine Insurrection of 1899-1902 was a case of successful United States elimination of an insurgency that had been developing for almost 25 years. By the time the United States assumed sovereignty over the Philippine Islands following the Spanish-American War of 1898, the objectives of the insurgent movement had changed from reform to Independence.
