The Underground Railroad Quilt

Years ago when I first heard about the underground railroad, it peaked my interest. But, years later when I saw a newspaper account of the quilts used as sign post along the underground railroad, I felt there was a story.This story started when I wondered what would make people take the dangerous trip in the first place. Then when I thought more, I wondered who would have thought of the use of quilts as sign posts.When I came up with the name of Mamie Josie, she sort of told the story, herself. I hope that it brings knowledge to you of the history of North Carolina and the South before the great war.This is a story that needs to be told to give credence to the people of the long ago. To give a pat on the back of the people who ran the railroad and the ones who rode the trail to freedom.
