A history book that kids really want to read
Tilly and her friends, Molly and Tom, think history is boring. In Tilly's words, many history books are all "This guy did this, then that, and President So-and-so said that."
Luckily, the friends stumble into living history in utterly un-boring ways.
In the "Unboring History of the B&O Railroad", the children board an Amtrak train for a vacation in Washington DC, and within minutes are whisked onto the trains of the old B&O Railroad. They find themselves on one train after another and participate in famous events in railroad history, like John Brown's ambush at Harper's Ferry.
The books are "written by" Tilly. She happens to be African American, but that is not important until she experiences things like being asked to leave a 1920s rail dining car.
