Alberta racked the slide on her forty-five; then, she took a deep breath. "Eight rounds left," she thought, "shotty in my cruiser, but crossing the open lot is suicide; better stay low and tight." The abandoned meat plant was dark; however, working graveyards over these past few months had given this woman exceptional night vision. She silently moved into position behind the meat cutter's bench, then focused on an assailant's silhouette as he passed in front of a broken window. Fixing her iron sights upon his center mass, she exhaled slowly and whispered: "Freeze." The target spun around and pointed his weapon; her muzzle flashed once with a deafening: 'BANG ' His expression of horror was bathed in light; then, quick as a flick, the room went dark again. While listening to her adversary gasp out his last breath, she enjoyed the sweet smell of violence and thought, "One down, three more to go."
