When I was growing up
I ran after the dragonflies
And I ran after the devils
I collected the pebbles
And I collected the pain
I grew up some more
I memorized the textbooks
And I memorized the trauma
At the bedside,
When I was treating your heart
I asked my own to wait a little more
"Someday, I said to myself"
I will sit down with you
and listen to your story
At the bedside,
When I was holding your hands
I asked my own to wait a little more
"Someday, I said to myself"
I will sit down with you
and hold you tight
Then one day,
My heart said,
I can't store it any longer
My eyes said,
No, can't hold it any longer
I grabbed a pencil
I grabbed a piece of paper
I poured my heart out
I drained my eyes out
That is why my darling,
my poems are made of blood and tear.
