Great tool for teaching teenagers about an important topic - volunteering

I bought this book because I am a teacher and our school was looking for ideas our honor society students could use to make their volunteer hours more meaningful - and I have to say that it proved to be a great resource. Not only did the author, Christine Maxwell, lay out a great plan for teaching our students the importance of volunteering, but she also created a tool our students could use to actually make a difference in our community. I shared this book with a colleague, and he got a copy for an entirely different reason that had not occurred to me - his son was in the process of applying for colleges, but he realized that his son lacked "community involvement" type activities that could really make a difference when applying for a highly competitive program. This book turned out to be a highly valuable resource for his son as well - and I highly recommend it.

As a full time volunteer, I found this book helpful and informative. I have given it as gifts to several young family members graduating high school, and I know they will enjoy it as well.
What a wonderful idea for a book!

American Authors Association review What a wonderful idea for a book! This is a unique guide to help young people not only understand the reasons for volunteering, but how to choose where they should volunteer along with directions on how to do it. The Ultimate Volunteer Guidebook for Young People is divided into sections: Donation, Drives, Fund-Raisers, Humanitarian Awareness, Ecological Awareness, and Animal Husbandry. Within each sections are descriptions of possible volunteer activities with detailed descriptions of how to go about each one. This book is straight-forward, easily understood, and would definitely be a helpful guide to any young person desiring to make a difference in his or her community-and even the world. For any youth embarking upon one of these plans for volunteering will not only result in a sense of accomplishment and responsibility, but will also be the material for a resume for college or employment. This would make a wonderful gift for a young person in middle or high school. However, the ideas are so wonderfully presented, the content in The Ultimate Volunteer Guidebook for Young People would be helpful to anyone who would like to do some volunteering but not quite sure how to go about it. Highly recommended! [...]
