In the autumn of 2003, in Wadebridge, South Dakota, USA, a young wife and mother stumbled upon a science fiction book in her small town's library. Intrigued by the front cover only, she checked it out with her stack of children's books and headed home. Believing she would not have much time to read it, she only glanced at the illustrations, escaping into another place and time.

She wasn't aware at first, but the events in that book closely mirrored her own life, and upon reading some of it, she would find a strength within herself.

This is a story within a story, about two women: a fictional Russian cosmonaut and an American housewife, both trapped, both destined to break free.
