The Twisty Secret of Secrets: A Thought-Provoking Novel

By Scott F. McFarlin

What if the greatest threat to humanity came not from revealing supernatural abilities, but from hiding them?

In 1348, during the height of the Black Death, Eleanor Blackthorne experiences a prophetic vision so terrifying that she founds a secret organization dedicated to hiding supernatural abilities from the world forever. For over six centuries, the Covenant of Shadows has protected humanity by ensuring that those with impossible gifts-healers, seers, reality-shapers-remain hidden in plain sight.

But each generation discovers that the choice between revelation and concealment comes with a price written in blood.

Salem, 1692: Minister Matthias Ashford manipulates memories to save the gifted from witch trials, only to discover his own organization has been orchestrating the persecutions.

Berlin, 1943: Resistance fighter Greta M ller and Soviet spy Anton Volkov possess the power to end the Holocaust-but using their abilities openly could trigger the apocalyptic future Eleanor foresaw.

Chernobyl, 1987: Nuclear engineer Dmitri Petrov can prevent history's worst nuclear disaster, but only by breaking six centuries of inherited obligation to remain hidden.

San Francisco, 2025: Technopathic Maya Chen and prophetic Lucas Blackthorne uncover the ultimate truth-Eleanor's vision was incomplete. She saw two catastrophic futures, not one, and hid the deadlier possibility from her own followers.

As supernatural abilities awaken worldwide at an unprecedented rate, the choice that has haunted the gifted for centuries finally reveals itself as the false dilemma it always was. The real threat was never exposure to the world-it was the civil war that would tear apart the supernatural community when forced to choose between authenticity and survival.

From medieval plague villages to digital-age revelations, The Twisty Secret of Secrets weaves together seven centuries of hidden history, impossible choices, and the eternal question: What price would you pay to protect the world from the truth about yourself?

"Each generation thought they understood their purpose. Each was only partially right."
