When an Armenian American niece and aunt head to NYC on the niece's birthday, they get stuck in Fort Lee traffic, leading the niece to convince her aunt to swim across the Hudson River at twilight. They must return to New Jersey in time for the Armenian blessing of the soul, the Hokehankist, of their Great Grandmother. On their odyssey, they encounter other swimmers with big life problems that become the source of life lessons, and they also confront their own fears.
