The Turtle on the Fencepost is a short story about animals desperate to save their pond after learning that a pond sucking machine is going to suck their pond dry to make way for a skyscraper. A young boy named Lachlan Wade passing by the pond is befriended by the animals and he ends up helping them save their pond. This story has many morals including the collective talents of the animals and team work to learn about their fate and to figure out how to save their pond. The book also features some simple physics to amuse the parents and to delight the children who grow up and read it again for the first time.
