INTO MEXICO IN SEARCH OF THE BURIED 5 MILLION CONFEDERATE GOLD BULLION

I receive westerns monthly from a western book club, and in April, 2008, this was one of the selections. Though I have a couple other of the author's books from the same source, this is the first one I've read. And I decided to do so based on the synopsis shown on the back cover. The synopsis sounded interesting and it was not untrue. The author certainly knows how to put a good story together, one that almost can be visualized, no doubt that comes from his working and writing scripts for Hollywood movies. He's been awarded The Golden Boot for his westerns and also 3 Emmys for TV work. So safe to say I am not the only one to discover his work. This western is one of the better novels it has ever been my pleasure to read, and the book also has many parallels to an older western, A MULE FOR THE MARQUESA BY Frank O'Rourke, with a movie entitled THE PROFESSIONALS taken from Mr. O'Rourke's book. I am not saying the books are identical, not at all, but I am saying that both books make for terribly interesting reading. Both books entail a group of professionals entering Mexico sub rosa to reach a goal, they want to get in and out undetected, which of due course does not happen in either story. Along the way they encounter opposition from armed bandits and Indians who wish to see them buried in Mexico. The goal of one book is the recapture of a woman, the other is the recapture of 5 million in gold. Each party of professionals have been paid good money up front going in, and will reap further money upon return. How can they lose, but as any reader knows, in Mexico early 19th century one could easily lose. Both books are staffed by men and woman of much bravery and skill, and both storylines are not easily ignored, it is difficult not to want to finish both books in a single reading. Any of you western fans would be well advised to read this book by Andrew J. Fenady, as he has a good grasp on western things of history and writes a very excellent book, so too with Frank O'Rourke, if you can find his classic westerns. I fortunately have a full shelf of Mr. O'Rourke's westerns. Best in reading. Semper Fi.

Trespassers, Another hit from Fenady

Legendary authors just don't happen. It takes hard work, and the best of co-creators. Fenady can claim the best. John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, the Rebel, and a Hollywood resume as long as the day all give credence to his work. If that doesn't convince you, pick up the Trespassers and get lost on the Mexican border along with four soldiers of fortune. Keep an eye out for the Yaqui Indians and Benito Juarez on the trail pardner...they're not far behind! When is this film coming out? Tim Lasiuta
