The Tree Poachers

THE TREE POACHERS spans nearly 45 years of history, beginning at the inception of Redwood National Park in California as well as its biggest attraction: the Giantess and the Gerschult burl, aptly named after the man who tried to cut her down.

Sam is finishing up his third year of high school when his father dies, and to everyone's dismay, Sam's estranged uncle and black sheep of the family, Derek, shows up to the funeral. Derek runs an underground poaching team that specializes in cutting burls from redwood trees inside the park and selling them for exorbitant prices. Sam and Derek grow closer together until Sam joins Derek's poaching team. All the while, chief ranger Hank Nell and park ranger Denny are investigating the burl thefts, nailing down evidence and piecing clues together while working hard to keep the natural beauty of the park alive.

Sam is going to help Derek in pulling off their most ambitious heist yet: stealing the Gerschult burl. In order to do this, Sam has to put his thoughts and values behind him, including his need to figure out what truly happened to his father. And if the rangers want to catch them and stop the poachings for good, they're going to need to use everything in their arsenal to stand a chance.
