The Transparency Protocol: A marriage tested by secrets in a world without privacy
The Transparency Protocol: A marriage tested by secrets in a world without privacy, authored by Matt Morissen, is a speculative fiction novel and psychological drama situated in the hyper-surveilled election summer of 2026 along the shores of Lake Michigan.
The narrative centers on Eli and Sasha Vance, a data scientist and a sociologist, who voluntarily participate in a radical marriage experiment known as the "Transparency Protocol." Under the guidance of a sophisticated, localized artificial intelligence hub called ECHO and an immersive "marriage dashboard" created by their colleague Mira Chen, the couple continuously monitor and display synchronized biometric data, heart rates, neural logs, and microexpressions. Their objective is to construct a relationship devoid of omission, concealment, and deceit.
As society becomes increasingly polarized around performative authenticity and predictive surveillance capitalism during a turbulent election cycle orchestrated by individuals such as Jonah Reyes, the marriage experiment faces significant challenges. The relentless exposure of their relationship paradoxically transforms it into a sterile display, fostering vulnerability, performative tension, and deep emotional alienation. When unexplained four-minute data lapses, encrypted anomalies, and inexplicable marble dust disrupt their digital records, Eli and Sasha must confront the limitations of quantified intimacy. The novel ultimately examines whether love can endure in the absence of privacy, emphasizing the necessity of private sanctuary for sustaining genuine human connection.
