Isaac Asimov had a weekly column with Science Fiction & Fantasy magazine for decade after decade. Tragedy of the Moon is one of the better of these collections and a favorite of mine. Like his other SF & F collections, Moon has 17 essays, each 4000 words. Here are the essays:A- About the Moon1. The Tragedy of the Moon2. The Triumph of the Moon3. Moon over Babylon4. The Week ExcuseB- About Other Small Worlds5. The World Ceres6. The Clock in the SkyC- About Carbon7. The One and Only8. The Unlikely TwinsD- About Micro=organisms9. Through the Microglass10. Down from the Amoeba11. The Cinderella CompoundE- About the Thyroid Gland12. Doctor, Doctor, Cut my ThroatF- About Society13. Lost in Non-Translation14. The Ancient and the Ultimate15. By the NumbersG- And (You Guessed It!) About Me16. The Cruise and I17. Academe and IThere are some great essays in this collection, notably the first 4, 13, 14 and 16. Certainly more than half of the essays deserve five stars, but others don't. I reserve the highest rankings for his best works.
