By Victor Plarr

Book Overview

""The Tragedy of Asgard"" is a novel written by Victor Plarr and published in 1905. The story takes place in Asgard, the realm of the Norse gods, and follows the tragic events that unfold when Loki, the god of mischief, seeks revenge against his fellow gods. Loki's plan involves manipulating the gods and causing chaos and destruction in Asgard. He convinces the blind god Hod to throw a spear at the god Balder, who is invulnerable to harm. However, Loki has made the spear from mistletoe, the only substance that can harm Balder, and the god is killed instantly. The death of Balder sends shockwaves through Asgard, and the gods are desperate to find a way to bring him back to life. They turn to Hel, the goddess of the underworld, for help, but she agrees to bring Balder back only if every living creature in the world weeps for him. As the gods travel the world, trying to make every creature weep for Balder, Loki continues to cause trouble. He creates a giant serpent that threatens to destroy the world and sets in motion a chain of events that will ultimately lead to the end of Asgard and the death of many of its gods. ""The Tragedy of Asgard"" is a gripping tale of betrayal, revenge, and the struggle between good and evil. It offers a unique perspective on Norse mythology and is a must-read for fans of fantasy and mythology. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
