Award winning news and sports journalist Mark Bishop grew up in the East Midlands, and started his career in the media industry on local newspapers in his home city of Leicester. His experiences and memories he gained as a young reporter have never left him and so once again, Mark has produced another book on the adventures of the Derby 9 and the Ad Girls who work for the freesheet newspaper company, the Trader Group. The year is 1992. After their recent exploits in Monte-Carlo and then Rome, the Trader Group staff, along with its owner, Mrs Hanley, her new husband Dave Wilde and the four directors, Bruce Hallyday, Richard Johnson, Judy Morgan and Graham Treadwhite, are now all going to Belgium (the capital city of Brussels, to be precise) for their annual 'works outing' holiday. Belgium if often overlooked by holidaymakers going to Europe who might prefer the more 'exotic' countries of Italy, France, Spain and Greece. But in fact, Belgium has much to see and do and if you have a sweet tooth and like strong beer, it's definitely the country to visit as the Trader Group are about to find out A coach trip to a monastery, to discover and sample a super strong ale brewed by the resident Trappist monks, leads to an 'interesting' conclusion with one of the directors getting more than a taste for the 14 per cent ABV Westmalle beer while a planned lunch for the Trader Group at the ancient Abbey leads to confusion and a long wait Belgium is also famous for its waffles, chocolate and crispy fries smothered in mayonnaise. Pam, Bev, Liz, Sandy and the rest of the Ad girls get a taste for all of those things while the Derby 9 can't resist the beer. Saturday night sees Pam and the girls clubbing at the local night club which is playing the new dance music of trance and techno while John and the rest of the printers go and watch a league match between Union Gilloise v Club Brugge at the Stade Joseph Marien. It's three, fun filled packed days with tram rides, night walks and trips to the famous flea market in the Place du Jeu-de-Balle, plus visits to the Grand Place and plenty of the city's cafes and restaurants to drink hot chocolate and eat waffles loaded with syrup and ice cream. However, the trip to Belgium isn't without drama and intrigue as one of the Ad Girls is sacked in disgrace while Judy Morgan and Richard Johnson strike up more than just a friendship. Mrs Hanley's marriage to Trader Group Controller Dave Wilde gets stronger while Graham Treadwhite shows his moves on the dance floor at the hotel disco. The bonding between the Trader staff continues to get stronger while Dave Wilde is now 'well in' with the Derby 9 as they all go to watch Derby's away league match at West Ham when they get back home. The Trader Group Go To Belgium should prove another entertaining read for every reader
