The Tower Apartments were built in Miami in 1927 and had been the winter home of many a rich New York family. In 1980 it was bought, refurbished, and resold as co-operative apartments. Through the next thirty years "The Tower" experienced and endured hurricanes and restoration; socializing and fighting; community and strife. "The Tower" was a microcosm of society. Times were changing; people were changing; society was changing. They were just like the world as a whole, many nationalities, languages, and cultures, except they were mostly retiree senior citizens who lived in a party town like South Beach. Mike Murphy was one of the new owners in South Beach in 1980. He was a retired New York City beat cop who lived the motto 'serve and protect.' He did everything from cleaning garbage chutes to retrieving jewelry from sink traps. He served on "The Tower" Board of Directors for almost thirty years. Mike Murphy was The Tower Apartments. See and experience The Tower Apartments through his eyes.
