Best book I could have bought.

If you are at the intermediate level in arabic and are starting to watch the news this book will help you a lot. I found that I knew about 1/3 of the words in the book when I bought it, but it is still more helpful than a lot of other books. It gives you words that are used often in today's news like "suicide attack", "disaster", "flood", "pollution", etc. I wouldn't get this book if you are a beginner and aren't a master at reading and pronouncing the words correctly, but once you've got the basics down pick this book up.

Excellent Source to Accompany Arabic Media Study

This book is an excellent supplement to any serious study of Media Arabic. It truly gives the reader a solid foundation to work from, and it is divided into a number of topical chapters that make for finding key terminology very easy. I would recommend this to any student of Arabic who wishes to improve their comprehension of Media Arabic. I would also recommend "Media Arabic" by Julia Ashtiany. "The Top 1,000 Word for Understanding Media Arabic" makes a great companion book to Ashtiany's "Media Arabic." With these two books, you will be well on your way to reading proficiency in Media Arabic.

Not perfect, but worth the money

This does have many words that you could find in the dictionary, but it also has many useful expressions that are not found in the dictionary. Every time I look through this I find a new expression that would be helpful for my speaking or writing. However, I wish it was a little better organized (maybe alphabetized) so that it would be easier to reference while reading the news.

This book is wonderful because there are words in here that you may not find in the dictionary in the same context. Book is broken down into sections (general, politics, elections, military, economics, trade & industry, law & order, disaster & aid). Words are written in Arabic and listed with English meaning. Excellent reference. You must know how to read Arabic to use this book.
