A story about the trials and tribulations of dating later in life. All the things, like family and friends, that you must deal with differently.
The story gets its name from the character Ed Hemsler (John Lithgow), an old codger and survivalist. He sometimes dismisses the here and now.
Ed inadvertently develops a friendship with Ronnie Meisner (Blythe Danner) congress, hoarder, and purchaser of unneeded trinkets.
Together they must work out how their relationship will work and maybe shed some of their foibles in the process. We get to travel through life with them and periodically kibitz.
Where will this lead, and was either of them correct in their way? Do they really need to?
