These are the poems of a survivor. The book opens with the crushing loss of a loved one -- the poet's daughter -- to suicide. In the aftermath the world seems changed. One does not know what to do... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The poems in this debut collection should be read slowly, to allow for a meditative state of mind. Title poem reveals trouble, but "only trouble is interesting" as Janet Burroway says in Writing Fiction: A Guide to Narrative Craft. I get a good sense of the speaker. The poems establish a rapport with the reader that feels sincere and the specifics in the narrative could happen to anyone. A wonderful read, that I reread for inspiration.

Without being maudlin, and with the gift of Grace, the author explores the ultimate grief. Going back to many of the small moments of his life, he reconstructs, through his poetry, what is crucial to understanding what has happened. Going forward, he shows readers that simply being human is the surest road to healing.
