They say the secret of life is a life of purpose. In the icy winter of 1963 an odd collection of outsiders in the sleepy seaside resort of Widmouth strive to give purpose and direction to their lives. Joe Pryce dreams of opening a 'Tiki room' - a club inspired by the early 60's US craze for South Seas styles of d?cor, fashion, exotic food and drink, and especially 'Tikis'; bizarre, primitively carved statues, masks and idols. Joe hopes that ex-art student Scarlet Corrigan might be able to design his dream. Together they create the strangely named 'Konakiki' room, which briefly thrives in the rapidly changing world of the 1960's, but can they survive and adapt in the turbulent decades that follow? Then, almost half a century later, can the club and its creators enjoy a dramatic 21st century renaissance?
