Read to Me!

Filled with great poems, the best "Read to Me," on page 29--- "Read to Me riddles and read to me rhymes, read me stories of magical times......." My only negative- its cover is a pinky lavender- making it seem like a book that will only appeal to girls, while in reality the protagonist shown in the illustrations is a boy baby bear.

Lovely, lovely book

From the gorgeous illustrations to the catchy rhymes, this book is a wonderful buy & a fantastic depiction of many holidays ("common" ones such as Thanksgiving as well as more obscure ones such as Earth Day). I especially liked how the author provided a combo poem for Christmas/Chanukah: Stars are shining Down the lane, Making halos On each pane. Celebrations For a night Made of holy Candlelight. For each candle Say a prayer. Blessings on us, Every bear. I am only surprised not to find more enthusiastic reviews of this book, but perhaps that is because it was published awhile back (I found our copy at a thrift store). It may be an oldie, but it is timeless & classic.

A beautiful storybook of poems

The more my daughter and I read this book, the more we liked it! Jane Dyer's illustrations are beautifully detailed--who would have imagined the bears living in such an ornate little house! Apparently Goldi and the bears have become friends because they share photographs, go to each other's parties, and compare gardens. Children can relate to baby bear's feelings that he is "Too Old for Naps," his fears "In the Night," and his opinion that Daddy's lap makes the best chair at all. This is a wonderful book to read aloud to your child at bedtime--or anytime.
