Great Story of Ancient Roman Times

It's not what you would think from the title. It's actually the story of a young man, lost from his home for 3 years because he "borrowed" his tribe's money to gamble with disastrous conseqences. He was kidnapped and sold into slavery. The way the author weaves together a tale of his training as a gladiator, his time as a slave in a brothel and subsequently how he uses his experiences to return and help his tribe(from which is is outcast due to his original theft) throw off the Roman conquerors is fascinating reading.
