The year was 1935 - and with fascism threatening and a civil war in Spain looming it was turbulent times ahead for Sir James McKay, chief of the British Secret Intelligence Service. However, these events paled into insignificance compared with a compromised Berlin operation. His deep-cover agent, a German scientist working on the advanced Enigma coding machine, was missing. To add to his woes Hitler had violated the Treaty of Versailles and was giving succour to the Spanish Nationalist Government and expecting payment in return. This payment Sir James reasoned would be access through Spain to Gibraltar. Should this happen he had an alternative plan - Tenerife. Unfortunately, it transpired that Hitler had thought similarly and beaten him to the Canary Island archipelago. Enter Sir James' prot g , the suave, womanising, but lethal Scott Rutherford to unravel Sir James' woes.
