His maturing involves solving riddles about himself. He finds love - and a family mystery. Abandoning a career designing adobe buildings in New Mexico, his path leads to his final epiphany in the Andalusian city, Jerez de la Frontera, where his cherished notions of "the invisible in the visible" prove more real than imagined, provoking the conclusion to his Tell.
