I love the energy, power and atmosphere of Ian Winn and his wild, crazy and in the same time crystal clear and brilliant search for magic, mystery and myths in Egypt and India. You will carry it around as your Bible and walk right out into the wilderness. Ian Winns adventures and lust for life power will change your life, your thoughts, your perspectives...I hope his second book will come soon, we are many disciples out here waiting...

A mind-bending, soul-searching, international romp

Romance, drugs, sex, sure... but what really makes this book a read is the adventure. Is it a novel, a spiritual coming-of-age, a travelogue? Hard to know what shelf to find it on. Perhaps it'sdescribed best as a do-it-yourself guide to wide-eyed, slurp-it-up, grab-with-both-fists living: with theauthor's own experience teaching by example.If you've seen Winn perform his poetry slam act, you'll have had a glimpse of the energy that animates him -in this book you get to see how that energy takes him through Egypt and India, surfing on the energy waves ofpink-mohawked cultural terrorists, shifty Mohammads, psychic saddhus, frustratingly luscious francaiskas,glassy-eyed Rajneeshians, and straw-twisting donkey johns. Not a dull page in the book.I won't give away the end except to say that the author gives every indication that his adventures are justbeginning, and so I'm happy to guess that we'll have another adventure of the Octopus Messiah to enjoybefore too long.

Yeah, I actually finished the book. (Unlike other reviewers)

This novel is nothing less than a masterpiece. It takes you through this world that we as westerners know little about. And the main character is spurned by a drug we know little about. The result? The most spiritually questioning, morally sustaining piece of work I've ever read. I felt like i knew the author right from the start...and that pulls you in. Right away you are ready for any adventure that awaits. And Ian Winn delivers.

Loved it, loved it, loved it!

Never having been a student backpacker, or even any kind of user (20 Silk Cut and copious amounts of beer being enough for me); the journey I have just been taken on enlightened me, taught me and made me laugh. A great "I want more" ending. Read it and you'll start to think in rhyme.

Modern Day 'On the Road' for Today's Man
