This book is a wonderful compliment to the "Tao of Chinese Painting" published in the 1950's. The book includes a good review of traditional Chinese styles. Wu Yangmu describes the tools, execution of brush strokes, and methods of applying color in Chinese Painting. Form, texture, and mood are also covered. There are great illustratons of landscape techniques. The rock and tree sections are extrordianary. Other sections of the book presents the techniques for flower-and-bird painting. The inclusion of the modern artist Wu Changshuo is a special treat. It is difficult to find information about Wu Changshuo and his students work. This modern style of painting the energy and the spirit of plants, animals, and landscapes is connected to the Tao and "I Ching". The basic information and guidance is presented with clarity and experience. The colored pages are quite wonderful. "The Techniques of Chinese Painting" by Wu Yangmu is an excellent tool for the artist and equally for one involved in the study of Chinese painting.
