Most trading books tell you which indicator to use. This one teaches you how to read a chart.
The Technical Trader's Playbook is a rule-based technical analysis framework built for traders working in both Forex and cryptocurrency markets - two markets that share a technical vocabulary but operate on genuinely different mechanics. Rather than treating one market as a relabeled version of the other, this book gives each its own dedicated treatment: Forex sessions, major-pair correlation, and macro-event risk on one hand; crypto market structure, funding rates, open interest, and liquidation dynamics on the other - while building both from the same underlying analytical process.
That process is a seven-step framework - Context, Structure, Level, Trigger, Risk, Execution, Review - used consistently from the first chapter to the last. You'll learn to read market structure, candlesticks, support and resistance, and supply and demand without relying on indicator overload; to use moving averages, RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands, volume, and Fibonacci tools deliberately and sparingly; and to apply widely discussed concepts like liquidity sweeps, break of structure, change of character, order blocks, and fair value gaps with precise, consistent, book-wide definitions.
Thirteen complete, rule-based trading strategies follow, each specified to the same standard: exact entry, stop, and target rules; position sizing; invalidation conditions; explicit "when not to trade" rules; a winning example and a losing example; a backtesting method; and a performance checklist. No strategy is presented with a claimed win rate or backtest result - each is a fully specified framework for you to test honestly on your own data.
Risk management gets its own extensive treatment: position-sizing formulas for both markets, a risk-of-ruin model, drawdown mathematics, correlation-adjusted portfolio risk, and a full expectancy framework with worked numerical examples. A dedicated chapter connects common psychological pressures - fear, greed, revenge trading, FOMO, confirmation bias - to the specific rules already built into the book that defend against each one.
The book closes with a complete practical toolkit: a strategy comparison matrix, risk and position-sizing worksheets, a backtesting worksheet, a trading journal, pre-trade and post-trade checklists, and a personal trading plan template.
This book makes no promises about profit. Trading involves substantial risk of loss. What it offers instead is a disciplined, honestly-labeled way of thinking about markets - precise enough to test, and rigorous enough to trust once tested.
