The Sweethearts

All my life I loved reading the classics and writing. As a young teen I sent letters to the Editor of the local newspaper, with protests about the Vietnam War, the 18 year old right to vote and about the unjust issues in our community. One day I got a call from the Editor and thought, now here is my chance. He called to say he agreed with me on all the subjects I wrote about, but he could not publish them. He said people in America were not ready to hear what I had to say, but one day they would and he told me to keep writing. I never forgot that and so I wrote for myself. There was just one story I really wanted to tell as it was a major factor in shaping who I am today. The Sweethearts; Women's Fast Pitch Softball Team. The characters are a composite of the real players, except Josey, my mom. I needed to tell a small part of their story, so they would not be forgotten.
