You know that the best fantasy is character-driven and rich with detail.
Welcome to The Deer King series.
The setting is colonial. The heroes and heroines change from novella to novella, as do the villains. The world grows richer and more complex as the series progresses. The arc of the series isn't always linear, but you're okay with that. You've read enough fantasy that's in a rush to crown the king, to capture the ring, to save the day. Now what you want is to read something that feels indie, but polished. Something that feels like it's not in a hurry to move on to something else.
The Deer King is an epic fantasy series of novellas. Each one is a distinct, standalone story. But they're all building toward something bigger.
The day when the Deer King comes of age.
So start reading now. Then stay for the journey.
An Interview with the Author
What was the inspiration for The Deer King series?I'm a history teacher, and I've always loved the colonial/revolutionary era. I thought it would be a great jumping-off point for a fantasy series. As with any good fantasy series, The Deer King is full of magic and mystery (and reincarnated gods, as well), but the characters and cultures in the book are struggling with the same problems people were struggling with two and three hundred years ago. How do we resolve conflict when cultures clash? And how do we put Enlightenment ideals into practice, when humanity is so flawed?
Who do you think will read the series?Anyone who appreciates history and adventure. Anyone who likes writing that is a little outside the box. Anyone who thinks that the journey is more important than the destination.
Anything the readers should know about you?I've been writing for nearly two decades. I'm also a dad, a teacher, and a husband. And I have a miniature greyhound named Moby. He's cooler than me, as you can tell by my author photo.
