The Strawberry Factory tells the story of Joey, an Ojibwa boy, who was orphaned in 1939 at the age of sixteen. Sent to live at a private South Dakota orphanage off the reservation, Joey comes under the influence of Sister Grace, a nun who teaches her boys about baseball, but also bigger lessons about life. Joey finds friends and family as he learns the value of work and belief in himself. We see Joey take control of his life as he himself becomes a coach, a teacher and a member of his community. In the end, The Strawberry Factory shows how clashing cultures join forces and create a world where a young boy can become powerful in the world of sports like baseball, while learning to be powerful within himself.
