Meghali Azzaro, Director of Analysis at the CIA, meets Patrick O'Connor at a futurist conference. Fascinated by his belief that movies are the key to forecasting the future, she employs him. He quickly becomes her key to understanding seemingly unexplainable events unfolding in the Middle East.

They learn of a mysterious stranger known as 'the Storyteller', accompanied by a young girl named Soraya. He claims to have been sent by God with a message for humanity: 'You are destroying your planet, and one day, it will be a dead world like your neighbour, Mars.'

Meghali struggles to understand why and who is directing the events that spread worldwide, even with the might of the CIA behind her. Meanwhile, Patrick, who believes he knows the answers, forecasts the next scene in the unfolding movie. Convinced an ecological disaster looms, they battle to persuade world leaders to act and avert the consequences.
