This book represents the ancient Greek myth of Pygmalion very well. The young sculptor, Pygmalion, makes it well aware to all the ladies wanting to marry him that he is totally dedicated to his work. He loved sculpting and he believed that was all he needed. That all changed when he fell in love with one of his statues. He created what he thought was the most beautiful woman ever. He stopped working and focused completely on her. Treating her like a real person. He was desperate to find someone exactly like his statue so he could move on with his life. So he asked Venus, the Goddess of Love, to help him, she knew how much he loved this statue so she granted him his wish and turned the statue into a real woman. This story of Pygmalion is known by many and has been heard or seen in a variey of ways. But I think this book did a great job of telling the story in a way that keeps our attention. The illustrations in this book are excellent! They are detailed and colorful. I like how the introduction gave the readers some history about ancient Greek civilization and other Greek myths. This book can be read to children of all ages. The children will enjoy the pictures and they will learn about anicent myths that have been around forever and will continue being told forever.
