Book Overview

The shocking conclusion to the YA dystopian H2O duology. The rain may not be the only thing to fear in this post-apocalyptic thriller.

Ninety-seven percent of the population is dead. And the killer rain keeps falling. Ruby's not sure she can make it on her own much longer. So when a chance encounter leads her to a camp with the last boy she may ever kiss (it's not easy to date during an apocalypse), Ruby gratefully accepts the army's protection.

But safety comes with a price: If Ruby wants to stay, she must keep her eyes--and her mouth--shut.

Except Ruby stumbles across a secret she can't possibly keep. Horrified, she flips out and fights back--only to make the most shocking discovery of all.

Think H2O then take it up a notch

Surprisingly, I enjoyed this sequel more than the original, which is not a common occurrence I’ve found. This book really grows with the character as she experiences (trauma) and her eyes become more open to the realities she faces. She’s faced with realistic moments of moral decision making and reacts as we would all assume a teenager would. But even the writing form has grown since the first book in the series. As with the first, Bergin does an amazing job at presenting grief and loss through an adolescent perspective. And I thoroughly enjoyed the ending. By the last 5 chapters I was reading vehemently (because I truly couldn’t remember the ending) wondering what was going to happen to these characters I’d grown to love. As with the first, keep in mind that this is not only a YA novel, the narrator IS a teenager (and honestly, a fairly insufferable one at times) and is written as such.

Good book, but not the best.

I think the book was more for teens, not an adult.
