The Store: He Sees With Memory

He runs his hands over the coins and proceeds to ask the young girl, what can I get you? She responds by telling him a bag of plain Tom's potato chips, a dime worth of penny cookies and points to a stick of peppermint candy on a shelf in the glass case. He gives her the items and her correct change in nickel and pennies. I forgot to mention earlier that this man in the Store is blind and only able to see light and darkness.
"The Store" is a literary non-fiction book. The central character is the Store itself as well as a man who is blind. The man operated a small store for over four decades in a city public housing in the deep south. The housing Projects and the Store stood in the middle of the early civil and voting rights movements. The "Store" never had a sign or a name identifying it. However, everyone who ever visited or entered the store left with something whether they came to get something or maybe not.
