John Tyler (1790 - 1862) was the first person to succeed to the Presidency after the death of the incumbent when William Henry Harrison died in office after serving for only one month. Prior to becoming President, Tyler served as a United States Senator, a Member of the U. S. House of Representatives, and as the Governor of Virginia. This work brings together President Tyler's four State of the Union Addresses delivered between 1841 and 1844.
