On February seventeenth, 2018, Arthur complained of back pain and asked to go to the Emergency Room. He was diagnosed with fractured first lumbar vertebrae and kept on bed rest for a week. The doctors considered doing the Kyphoplasty procedure but then they determined that it was an old fracture, and that treatment would not be beneficial. When I got to his room, he raised his right arm to show me the dressing and explained that when he was taken to the Imaging Center "they were rough." On February twenty-third, he was discharged home in a wheelchair. He could not walk and had very little appetite. After the follow-up visit to his primary-care physician, we got a call from him. "You know Arthur is a changed man...he may not survive this." Perplexed, I responded, "But, no one dies from a fractured vertebrae."
