An excellent, step-by-step guide to the DES

The printing and font choices could be better. The contents, though, are excellent. Katzan handles the problem of notation (left to right in the ANSI standard, but least to most significant in any computer implementation) very deftly. This is the only source I know that provides a method to verify a particular implementation of the DES/DEA.
