Non Fiction

A very useful publication when I was involved in working on this sort of things. It gives year by year team rosters and statistical history and results for the NFL for the period in question. This gives you at a glance reference to the important numbers for the period. Definitely worth happening for those interested in NFL stats.

The Bible of Football.

Contains so much information it's mind boggling. Contains practically everything you could ever want to know about the sport up to the year it was published. If you're a football fan it's definitely worth the money, I probably spent an average of $.05 per hour of entertainment it gave me and I paid retail.

MY FAVORITE FOOTBALL ENCYCLOPEDIA

The David Neft Football Encyclopedia is my favorite because of its chronological layout. Each season is broken down by team stats and player stats. You can look up a particular team in a given year and see how that team's statistical performance was composed of the player's stats for that season. A great drill-down view.

The Best I've Seen Despite a Few Errors

This guide contains a wealth of information not easy to find in other sources. It is good at providing historical individual stats, but particularly good at providing comprehensive historical TEAM stats, which I find surprisingly hard to come by. There are a few mistakes and a few stats that s/b added (like time of possession where available), but overall the best of its kind made. Too bad it appears to no longer be published annually. (Also, the cover of the last edition was thinner and less durable than in prior editions.)

A must for any serious NFL fan

Forget about it-- no more arguments, this book has it all, the history, players, scores and stats in the NFL and AFL since 1960. There are updated editions available, but they only cover the league since 1972. Nearly 800 pages in an 8.5" x 11" format, you won't be dissatisfied. Buy this one if you can find it and buy the updated edition for the recent seasons. A fantastic sports encyclopedia.
